Feelings children and adolescents might experience when they are in self-care situations are explained, as well as guidelines that have been developed for different age groups. Parents are urged to consider key factors other than age when deciding if a child should be left alone, and safety tips are listed for ensuring the home is safe for children and that the children know what to do in emergencies.
