This report discusses the development, components, and evaluation of a home-based/group-based intervention program designed to increase the nurturing skills of teenage parents, treat the abusive parenting practices of teen parents, and prevent the initial occurrence of abusive parenting practices in teen mothers identified as high risk for physical and emotional maltreatment or neglect. A Visit to the Big House tells the story of the first time Rose and her little brother, Willy, go with their mother to visit their father in prison. It focuses on children's feelings, the love between parents and children, and the difference between right and wrong. The book is the result of a public/private partnership of Families in Crisis, Inc. and the Junior League of Hartford with the Connecticut State Department of Corrections. Journal Article This study examines the characteristics of 145 fathers in adolescent mother-child relationships previously determined to be ""high-risk'' for child abuse. The hypothesis that the fathers in these high-risk relationships may bring elements to the environment and relationship which exacerbate the existing risk (e.g., occupational, educational, and financial problems) was supported.
