In the United States, the number of obese children has continued to rise over the past two decades. Childhood obesity poses immediate and future health risks. Parents, guardians, and teachers can help children maintain a healthy weight by helping them develop healthy eating habits and limiting high-calorie temptations. We also need to help kids stay physically active, reduce screen time, and get enough sleep. The goal for overweight children is to reduce the rate of weight gain while allowing normal growth and development. Children should NOT follow a weight loss diet without consulting a health care provider.
