The article focuses on the low-income fathers and the role of laws and legislations of the court regarding the absence of fathers in the low-income families. Even though low-income fathers are included in the general research on absent fathers, they may face various problems and challenges related to paternal engagement during and after court actions. Various barriers to the paternal engagement discussed include relational, structural and role barriers. (Author abstract)
