Working with Dads: Resources and Support for Fathers of Children with Special Needs

About 1 in every 5 U.S. households with children includes at least one special needs child . That means most fatherhood programs can expect to work with fathers who have children with special needs. This webinar focused on issues faced by fathers and families with children of special needs and provided useful information and resources for practitioners and fathers.

Goals of Webinar:  After this training webinar, participants will improve their knowledge and understanding of:

  • The range of issues faced by Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN).
  • Issues faced by fathers and mothers of special needs children.
  • The special needs of fathers raising children with chronic illness or developmental disability.
  • Practical things that dads of special needs children can do to support each other and their children.
  • Ways that fatherhood practitioners can identify and provide support to fathers of special needs children.
  • Resources for fathers and practitioners who work with them.

Working with Dads: Encouraging and Supporting Father Involvement from Birth through Adolescence

This webinar focused on the importance of father involvement and strategies that fatherhood programs can use to support father engagement with young infants, school age children, and teenagers.

Working with Child Support – Effective Strategies from Model State and Local Partnerships
Thursday March 28, 2013: 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM (EASTERN)

The webinar will provide ideas and resources to help responsible fatherhood practitioners understand and meet the needs of non-custodial fathers and their families.  It will feature an overview of federal, state and local policies, partnerships and initiatives; explain how fatherhood practitioners can partner with local child support offices; and generally explore strategies to help non-custodial fathers and their families.

Goals of Webinar:  After this training webinar, participants will improve their knowledge and understanding of:

  • Child Support policies and procedures.
  • Strategies and resources that fatherhood practitioners can use to help non-custodial fathers understand and manage their child support responsibilities.
  • Examples of successful partnerships between fatherhood programs and child support at the state and local level.
  • Ways to develop and maintain effective local partnerships with child support.

The National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse: Your Resource for Strengthening Fathers and Families in 2013

During this Webinar, an overview of the NRFC and the available resources and supports that the clearinghouse offers to fathers, families, and the fatherhood field was provided. In 2013, the NRFC will provide new resource materials and supports for practitioners, community- and faith-based programs, government and privately- funded programs, and the public.
