Linkages Between Family Life Education and Early Childhood Home Visiting

Event Date/Time:
Monday, September 16, 2019 - 11:00am to 12:00pm
National Council on Family Relations

Home visiting is increasingly recognized as an essential way to support families with young children. The professional expectations for the home visiting workforce continue to expand, as well. Given the alignment of Family Life Education (FLE) content and methodology with the goals of many home visiting programs, there is great opportunity for FLE to contribute to home visiting efforts. More efforts are needed, however, to bring awareness to the value of FLE within home visiting and to ensure proper preparation.

This webinar, presented by Bridget A. Walsh, Ph.D., CFLE, and Carla A. Peterson, Ph.D., will explore linkages between Family Life Education and home visiting—particularly Early Head Start’s Home-Based Option—and the merits and challenges of collaboration in delivering home visiting services. The presenters will compare home visiting and FLE competencies; present a model to guide and standardize home visitor training in Family Science programs; and discuss future directions.
